About
Welcome to fumi - Im Kathrinenbild 1, an enchanting culinary destination nestled in the heart of Deidesheim, Germany. This restaurant seamlessly merges elegant Japanese cuisine with the architectural beauty of its surroundings, creating an atmosphere that tantalizes both the eye and the palate. With a commitment to superior service and exquisite presentation, fumi invites you on a gastronomic journey that celebrates the harmonization of diverse flavors.
As a food reviewer at Menu Buzz, it's my pleasure to share the highlights of this unique dining experience. Guests often rave about the stunning design that features a blend of wood and stone elements. This warmth in decor is complemented by the courteous and attentive staff, making every visit feel special from the moment you enter.
Dining at fumi is not just a meal, it's an experience. The restaurant offers a finely crafted Kaiseki menu, which is meticulously designed to engage all your senses. Generous portions are beautifully presented, and the balance of flavors showcases the chef's expertise. One of the standout dishes is the chicken teriyaki, which receives praise for its visual appeal and rich taste, alongside well-prepared sides such as miso soup and tempura vegetables.
However, it's not only about the food. The wine pairings are thoughtfully curated, with local selections that complement the dishes admirably. Guests have noted the extraordinary quality of the wines, which adds another layer of enjoyment to the dining experience. While one customer mentioned a surprising price on a specific white wine from der Pfalz, it didn’t overshadow their overall satisfaction, highlighting the value of the dining experience as a whole.
Families seeking a sophisticated yet accommodating meal will also find a welcoming environment at fumi. The restaurant’s ability to tailor dining experiences for children—such as serving sparkling grape juice in elegant glasses—adds a touch of class that young diners will appreciate. This thoughtful approach ensures that every guest, regardless of age, feels included and delighted during their meal.
In conclusion, fumi - Im Kathrinenbild 1 exemplifies the best of fine dining, offering exquisite food, excellent service, and a beautifully designed atmosphere that's perfect for a special occasion or a cozy dinner. Whether you're a fan of Japanese cuisine or simply in search of a remarkable culinary experience, this is one restaurant you won't want to miss.
“ Real japanese cooking art, With fantastic architecture. ”
“ The best Japanese restaurant I have been to outside Japan. The traditional Kaiseki menu sequence was carefully planned and prepared with ingredients of superb quality. Each course was distinguished by its balance and subtlety of flavors. Moreover, we enjoyed a 2009 vintage bottle of Sparkling Riesling (Sekt) produced by the associated vineyard. The Sekt was stunning and a fabulous pairing with the food. An evening we will remember for a long time. ”
“ We were here for Christmas Day lunch and it could not have been more perfect. We were able to enjoy a 5 course meal (quickly enough to enjoy it with 2 toddlers) and again, enjoy, was the keyword. Usually stuff like this can be torture with young kids. You can’t order what you want because it will take too long. Whatever small quick thing you aren’t excited about that you do order still takes too long. And then the food is still too fancy for the kids to enjoy anything. None of that was the case here. The restaurant is beautiful and minimalist, but stunning. The woman who helped us immediately poured our daughters sparkling grape juice, as soon as we sat, in proper champagne glasses without hesitation (which made them enjoy their beverage soooo much more - and for the record a 1.5 year old and a 3 year old sure can enjoy juice out of a champagne glass without breaking it ). The adults ordered 5-course tasting menus with wine pairings which were all so well thought through and delicious and beautiful and well balanced. The kiddos got their own amuse-bouche each, shared our early courses and split the most incredible chicken teriyaki dish I have ever seen, with miso soup, beautiful rice and tempura vegetables. I really can’t thank them more for making our holiday meal so special. My only minor negative would be the price of one of the white wines in our tasting was shockingly high for der Pfalz but that’s a very minor nit pick. ”
“ This place is stunning! Wood, stone, design...The food and the wines are art - real pleasure for all senses. The service is superior, good looking friendly persons... Really classy. ”
“ The overall experience from service to food was great. I had the lunch special while my SO had the Sushi plate. The savory foods were great and comparing them to similar dishes while living in Japan, they were very delicious. The four star rating comes from two sides, one is the cheesecake souffle not being as near as impressive as the food which left much to be desired. The green tea and coffee were also not what we were expecting, especially after the great food and wine. Overall, it is a great place to eat and the staff were great. ”
“ Overall very good experience. Fining dining style with 5 or 6 courses menu, food was delicious, service is attentive, friendly. We are not wine drinker, so only ordered a glass of Riesling but not the wine pairing package, however the wine is so tasty. Recommend to be ask more specifically on the ingredients (like we didn’t eat eel but it is in the sushi). But they are for sure willing to change it. Definitely want to visit again for the other menus. ”
“ Spacious, well designed restaurant with excellent food and service to match. We particularly enjoyed being able to hold a conversation without the noise level intruding. We had the Kaiseki menü for 89€ p. p. And the Weinprobe for 26€. We felt the price was well justified and the food was exquisite in presentation, marvelously varied in flavour and the quantity was just right. This is a place for gourmets rather than gourmands. It feels genuine in its Japanese character whilst embracing the local architecture and wines in perfect harmony. ”
